GANT is a lifestyle brand, with an East Coast American sportswear heritage, offering modern high quality casual wear with a European touch. Founded in 1949, today is a truly global lifestyle brand, offering a full range of clothing for men, women and children. In addition, GANT branded timewear, footwear, eyewear, fragrances and home furnishings are designed and marketed by licensees. GANT’s history began when Bernard Gant started making shirts in New Haven, Connecticut. He quickly turned his passion for quality and design into the business of making casual sportswear, thanks to the cooperation of his sons Marty and Elliot. In 1999, newly formed Sweden-based GANT AB (already in possess of the rights to design a collection for the Swedish market) acquired the brand from Phillips-Van Heusen and the rights to market GANT worldwide, excluded the US market, until 1999 when they had finally the opportunity to turn GANT into a global brand. In 2006 GANT was quoted on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, and in March 2008, the company was delisted and bought by Maus Fréres, a private Swiss company. GANT today is established in over 60 countries through 600 GANT stores and a large number of selected premium retailers.
